Presidents Letter – 2021

Presidents Letter – 2021

by Linda Cherry / Wednesday, 10 February 2021 / Published in Uncategorized

February, 2021

Dear Members and Friends,

I’m so happy to report some good news early in 2021! First, thanks to the ongoing support of our members and the hard work of our Board of Directors, I’m thrilled to announce that TOGA has implemented a scholarship program to assist the active-duty Soldiers of the Regiment in the furtherance of their education. This is a $1,000 grant to a Soldier selected by a TOGA committee. Please help us spread the word. Go to www.oldguard.org/scholarship to see the details and find the application. The deadline to submit for this year is May 15,2021. The grant may be used for attendance at any recognized college/university or vocational school.

I’m equally happy to announce that registration for the 2021 TOGA Reunion is open now. Our dates this year are September 15 – 19. Our hotel is again the Sheraton Pentagon City. The day trip will be to the new and must-see National Museum of the United States Army at Ft. Belvoir. The reunion committee is still working on detail but I know you’ll enjoy many of the familiar activities and perhaps a few new ones. Go to www.oldguard.org/reunion to see more and get registered. I’ve just had a great meeting with COL Roddy and RSM Whittington who are committed to reunion support to the extent they are able. We are so grateful for that. I sincerely hope the COVID virus subsides so we can all be together. If it does and we can, I expect we’ll have a great turnout since we missed it in 2019. Call your buddies and make plans to join us! Be assured, if we must cancel, your registration will be refunded as we did in 2020.

TOGA 2021 is off to a great start. Your Board of Directors and Action Officers will continue to work hard to sustain and build on the progress. Be safe. Take care of yourself.

Old Guard,

Flip Godfrey, President

THE OLD GUARD ASSOCIATION

TOGA was formed as a result of a conversation between a former Regimental Commander, Colonel Greg Gardner, and former Old Guardsman CSM Tom Twomey, during the 1997 Veteran’s Day observation at Arlington National Cemetery. A series of follow-on meetings soon established clear-cut goals and a Mission Statement.
