A Letter from the President
Dear Members and Friends,
You may not be aware that COL Tuite’s time in the Regiment is short. The change of command will take place on 9 June 2020. We owe Jim more than we can repay for his support of TOGA. He arrived as I imagine most of our commanding officers have arrived with eyes and ears wide open. He made it through the first couple of months on the learning curve at the highest level and has been a great leader ever since. His dedication to his oath and commitment to his job are clearly evident. Our Regiment and our Army are blessed to have him. Please take a moment to thank him should you have that opportunity. He has been a great friend of TOGA.
I’m very happy to announce that our new 2020 Reunion online registration application is live and online! Go to our website or click here to see this updated application with a new look - https://toga.regfox.com/the-old-guard-association-2020-reunion. You will find it much easier to use than in the recent past. Note that it has a new travel insurance component that you might want to consider given the current COVID-19 problem. A number of people had a hand in creating this new tool but our webmaster, Don Raleigh, was the brains of the operation. A big thank you to Don and the team.
We’re well along the planning path for the 23rd Annual Reunion. We have a great program for you again this year. Among the highlights is our Gala guest speaker, Mr. Ken Fisher. Ken is the Chairman and CEO of Fisher House. As you know, this incredible organization builds homes and provides housing at military and VA medical centers for the families of veterans who are receiving treatment. Their facilities can accommodate 1,100 families each day. In addition to the housing, they also assist with travel to the medical centers and academic scholarships. Scholarships alone have helped 12,000+ students to the tune of $24,000,000. Ken will give us some great insight into this important program.
Another highlight of this year is our Day Trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Army at Ft. Belvoir. This incredible museum has just opened. Our TOGA tour will be one of the first there. We only have 110 seats available so be sure to sign up early for this experience. You can do that when you register for the Reunion.
We’re returning to the Sheraton Pentagon City for our Reunion this year. You’ll be pleased to see that the hotel has completed an extensive room renovation project. Click here to reserve your room at the specially negotiated TOGA rate - https://book.passkey.com/event/50061229/owner/11804029/home.
What have you heard me say in the past? Call your battle buddies and get someone new to meet you at the Reunion. The growth of our programs is tied in so many ways to the growth of our membership. Its important and it’ll be fun. Pick up the phone or shoot off an email today and bring someone new.
The entire TOGA team of Directors, Action Officers and volunteers are looking forward to seeing you at the Reunion. Remember! We’ll gather one week earlier than we have in the past. The dates for 2020 are September 16-19. See you there.
