President’s Letter 2019
Dear Members and friends,
Our 2019 Reunion is in the books. TOGA and the attendees owe a huge thank you to COL Tuite and CSM Brooks for all the support the Regiment provided. I know we all agree it is those special “Old Guard” elements that make our gathering so meaningful. We all stood the marks and appreciate the effort the Soldiers of today made for us. And by the way, the Company sized TOGA element that went by the reviewing stand culminating the Pass In Review was simply outstanding. I was so proud of each and every one of you. The applause were well deserved! I have those same feelings for all the volunteers that helped to plan and produce our reunion. Thank you and well done!
The 2020 23rd Annual Reunion will be held one week earlier than usual. Mark your calendar now for September 16, 17, 18 & 19.
I want to take this occasion to thank outgoing TOGA Directors Dave Barrow, Nelson Forsburg, Greg Gardner and Ray Stender. Each has contributed much. Their combined historical knowledge of the Association is important to retain and so we won’t let them get too far away and will find ways to keep them engaged. Please thank them for their service should you have the opportunity. I personally appreciate all they’ve done to help me this past year. Welcome too to our newly elected Directors. They will officially begin work on 1 January but we started sharing all Board information with them the day they were elected. In alpha order, COL (R) Joe Buche, former TOG RCO – Susan Dean, former TOG Honor Guard – CSM (R) Jeff Stitzel, former TOG RSM and LTC (R) Tyler Willbanks, former TOG RXO. I’m looking forward to what I know will be excellent contributions from these people.
I’m sure you’ll hear from me again this year but for now, I want to leave you with an important request. We currently have about 1,200 dues-paying members. The number is basically static. In other words, we’re gaining members at about the same rate as we’re losing members when they pass. Please, contact your old TOG buddies and find out why they haven’t joined up. We need to strengthen our numbers so we can support the active-duty Soldiers of the Regiment at a higher level. If we all recruit just one new member we double in size. We can do that.
