My father, Louis H. Guevin, may have guarded the tomb in the late 1930s. He was born in Springfield, MA. I have a picture of him standing guard, maybe in 1938-41 time period. He enlisted in the Army Calvary in 1938 and was stationed at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester Vermont. He also served in the South Pacific during WWII; we think he was stationed in Australia during the war. Id like to find out if there are any records of his service at the Tomb. Any help would be appreciated. I can be reached at 603-455-5272.Lou Guevin12/28/2011

Dear fellow Oldguardsmen: The Old Guard Flag is a real winner. If, you have not yet purchase one, you have no idea what you are missing! If, you wish to show the pride that you have in being and/or having been a member of The Old Guard, this is it; I do not believe that you can get a better value. Noli Me Tangere.AL-Amin S. Good Evening! I am looking for some assistance if possible. While I did serve with The Old Guard (D Co. - 1990 - 91), my time was spent on a firing party. I am now involved with the Civil Air Patrol helping the Color/Honor Guard. I have the manuals, but if there is anyone in the Denver/Westminster Colorado area that served on a Color Guard detail that would be willing to help some cadets raise their level of ability for ceremonies, I would really appreciate it.Robert Jones11/17/2011

My close cousin and friend, Charles Thomas Love, passed away last night of a heart attack in his home in Limerick, Pennsylvania. Charles, or Tom as his family called him, served proudly as a member of the 3rd Infantry Regiment in the late 1960s. The memories of his service in The Old Guard were always special to him, and he spoke of them often. May he rest in peace.MG (Ret.) David Harris, USA11/11/2011

PROPOSED BY-LAWS AMENDMENT The following amendment to TOGA By-Laws, Article IV, Section 2, Sentence 2, was submitted in accordance with By-Laws Article XI. After careful and prudent review, the Board of Directors voted to approve the amendment and found that the proposed change to the By-Laws is proper to be brought before the general membership for their consideration and decision at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 1 October 2011. The current wording of this Section is: The President shall be limited to two, one-year terms in office, either consecutively or at different times. The proposed wording of this Section will be: "Initially, the President may be elected to one or two, one-year terms in office, either consecutively or at different times. Once he has completed his second year as president, he must wait two years before again becoming eligible to serve in the capacity of president. Four years is the cumulative total that one person can serve as president. To be nominated as president, a candidate must have served on the Board of Directors for a period of not less than two years prior to the date he is to assume the office of president." Rationale for this proposed change: It is the belief of the submitting member that the Association would best be served by being able to employ the leadership abilities and Association business acumen of a former president when those qualities are not present in the makeup of the current Board of Directors. Enabling clause: This amendment, if approved by two-thirds (66-2/3%) of the voting members present at the 1 October 2011 AGM, would take effect immediately, with installation of the president on 1 January 2012. Proxy votes, absentee ballots or electronically transmitted ballots are not valid for this voting procedure. Respectfully submitted, 30 August 2011 Donald G. Cofsky, Secretary Don Cofsky8/30/2011

Those of you who served in the 1st Battle Group during 1960-62 might remember LTC Charles P. Murray. LTC Murray was the Battle Group Deputy Commander under COL Richard Lee and a WW2 MoH recipient. COL Muray passed away last Friday, 12 August, at his home in South Carolina. He was 89 years old. There are plans to bury him in ANC but no date has been announced. I also served in Charlie Guard, 1/3 from 72-74 and was there when the Charlie Guard patches were designed and pinned on our uniforms. As I recall they were designed by Bob Stark who was the Co Cdr at the time. They did cause quite a stir. By the way. I am currently a life member of TOG association and have changed my address since the death of my wife. I would appreciate any assistance in getting my past mailing address for the newsletter changed. If you know plus give me infor on how to log on etc. In my move I lost all my log on password stuff. how I can do that/who to contact, please email me at joslynrj@aol.com Richard J. I served in Charlie Company, 1/3 in 62 and 63. Having seen the entries about the Charlie Guard patches in the 70s I was amused because I understand the rivalry between Charlie and Honor Guard companies that I am sure goes on today. As our performance was graded in every parade, we constantly placed second to Honor Guard Co. until one Saturday in 1963. That day we really felt we had performed excellently. Sure enough, later in the day our C/O announced, with great pride, that we had scored first in the parade, beating Honor Guard! As a reward the C/O had the mess sgt. procure steaks and grill them on the mess hall porch. Included were kegs of good cold beer. I will never forget that day. Poor Honor Guard Co. must have suffered dearly that day. Gary Rogers7/23/2011

I saw someone asking about the "Charlie Guard" patch. When I got to Charlie Guard in March, 1976, the company had stopped wearing the patch in 1975 approx. The patch was green and black, about 5"x5" and worn on the right pocket of fatigue shirts and field jackets. It was pinned on by taping a couple of ribbon bars on the back so that it could be transferred from one uniform to another. The patch was orgininally created in answer to the "Honor Guard" arc that was worn, at that time, only by Honor Guard Company. Charlie Guard hated that the rest of the battalion could not wear the arc also. Once they ran out of patches and new dicks arrived, they had no more patches to give out. Without everyone wearing the patch, that was the end of it. I have one that someone gave me back then.Dean Lindeman5/14/2011

In march 1954 80 or so replacements formed up and Capt JB Love selected 12 of us for A CO. The Honor Guard CO of the 3rd at that time. As was the custom then he had his pick of replacements. He was SHARP. My fondest memory of him occured when we fell out one day in the street behind our barracks. No NCOs were present and we were a most unruly mob.I was sguad leader 1st squad, 1st platoon. The drill platoon. He yelled out the window of the barracks, Urevich, GD it form up the Company. I had my moment in the sun, Co attention, dress right dress, ready front, parade rest. The Co reacted as if Capt Love or the field first had given the commands. COL Love was a fine CO. I last met him at the 2001 reunion. I guess all of us OLD OLD guards men are heading down the same road. JB LOVE rest in peace.John Urevich3/24/2011

My brother, Ray Epstein, was in the Old Guard from 1970-72. While stationed at Ft. Myer he was part of the Torchlight Tattoo performances (at least, this is what I remember it being called). On July 4, 1971 his wife and I watched the Old Guard perform this pagent in front of the Jefferson Memorial. I know that that particular performance was broadcast (probably a recording) because my parents saw it on a Denver station. Since that time I am tried over the years to find a copy of that recording. Ray died in an accident in 1980, leaving behind a little daughter. His daughter now has a baby girl of her own. She has few memories of her Dad. Her Mom and I feel that somewhere out there someone might have film of that July 4, 1971 performance of the Old Guard. Ray played the part of a departing WW1soldier going off to war and kissing his girl goodbye. I would love to find a recording to give to Rays daughter so she can really "see" her Dad. Anyone out there who may be able to help or send me in the right direction/ Please contact at rittscb@aol.comKathy Epstein-Ritts3/15/2011
